Your overall experience in London (beyond the course content)

I've read your journals, but what do you want to say to the group about your overall experience?  Highlights? Disappointments?  Surprises?

  1. I'll make this one short, I love the overall knowledge I acquired especially the holocaust, to view actual items and hear from survivors was the most heart felt experience I have felt in a long time. Genocide the movie if you are interested also has true facts. It was hard to hear from a fellow student that she actually believe that President Obamas is just like Hitler, it hit me harder than I thought, but Dr. Cate's defining that followers of Rush Limbaugh? as pure ignorance relieved some of the shock..
That and the fact that I injured my knee was the downside. I enjoyed meeting all of you I found our group to be mindful and respectful to each other, I was surprised at some of the other professors behavior, leaving a person in Oxford was shameful and sad when they laughed about it :-( .
I feel fortunate to have seen England and I found our Class to be a lot more interesting than I anticipated. It has been interesting and very informative. Thank you Dr. Cate and thank you all.

  2. I loved visiting all the museums with our class. I learned so much about the history of medicine that has helped to confirm my beliefs that medical school is not for me! I also enjoyed discussing controversial topics that often challenged my own belief system.
I was disappointed that we didn’t get to spend more time in some of the museums (like the science museum). Any one museum just has such a wealth of information that can never be fully seen in a mere few hours.
My overall experience was wonderful! I am already planning to study or travel abroad in the near future (as a part of my co-op, or to do research). Thank you Dr. Cate for an incredibly interesting and informative class—I see why you love Bioethics as much as you do.

  3. I feel so blessed to have gotten the opportunity to study abroad. I especially enjoyed Oxford University and Buckingham palace. I also can't forget the eye and Abbey Rd.! There are a couple of disappointments but I will only mention one. I thought the old operating theatre smelled bad and I think we should have skipped the second half of the tour because of the weather but overall, I am glad I got to go. I learned so much about this culture and couldn't have done it without the experienced help from Dr. Cate and her husband. Thank you Dr. Cate!

  4. The overall trip to London was an amazing and unforgettable experience! Visiting Oxford, Dover, Canterbury, and all the museums really opened my eyes to all the history in and significance of England. I always felt proud, being from Thomas More College, whenever I saw Thomas More mentioned in a museum (especially when he was talked about at the Tower of London). I really enjoyed spending time with everyone in our class. It was also neat to experience so much diversity every day we were there. I feel so blessed to have been able to take part in such a wonderful experience! My only regret is that we didn’t have more time to spend there; two weeks seemed way to fast. Thank you everyone for making it great!

  5. I got to see more than I anticipated; I think going on a trip like this is such an eyeopening experience. Although many people would not go because it was an actual class, I would encourage them to because we were able to see things that most people would have never tried to plan if they went for recreation. Although this was not my first choice for the class I wanted to take, I think everything worked out the way it was supposed to. We couldn't have had a better group of people and you all helped to make it the experience it was. Dr. Cate, you and your husband were great teachers and we benefited from having you as our professor. I wish everyone the best of luck with the rest of your schooling and personal lives. Thank you all and take care of yourselves.

  6. Studying Abroad was such a great experience. I have definately suggested it to other people. I was able to experience much more than if I have had just gone on my own. You also learn so much more knowledge with the tour guides that you otherwise wouldn't receive. I still look at my pictures all the time! I do not know if I could pick out a favorite moment...I loved every minute of it. I definately missed being able to take the Tube everywhere. My only disappointment was the mild delay at the beginning of the trip...but hey, it made a good story! All of the museums were so awesome and big; we could have spent a whole day in each one. Thank you Dr. Cate for everything! I enjoyed you as a professor and your husband was so helpful as well!
